On September 9, local time, Vice Minister of Communications He Jianzhong and Minister of State for Road Traffic and Highways Sawi Sasana Narayana of India held a brief meeting in Delhi, India. The two sides confirmed that they will sign the Memorandum of Understanding between the two departments on highway and road transport cooperation in due course. Later, He Jianzhong held talks with the Permanent Secretary of Road Traffic and Highways Department of India, Vijay Cibel. Weijie said that according to the road development plan formulated by the Indian government, India will build 4.7 million kilometers of road network and 82,000 kilometers of highways in the next 20 years. He hopes to strengthen pragmatic cooperation with China in the areas of highway infrastructure financing and training of high-end technical personnel for road construction.
He Jianzhong briefed Wei Jie on China's experience in developing the principle of "user pays" in the use of highway infrastructure, especially the policy of "loan-building roads, reimbursement for loans". He said that China and India have many things in common. The two sides should strengthen cooperation in the field of highway infrastructure, exchange and learn from each other, and promote each other. The Chinese government encourages qualified enterprises to participate in the construction of highway infrastructure in India.
Earlier, He Jianzhong and his entourage also met with the chairman of the Mumbai Port Authority. The two sides exchanged opinions on the promotion of port development and other issues.
