· Ford plans to join Tencent to integrate WeChat app into its models

Ford Motor intends to cooperate with China Tencent Holdings Co., Ltd. to modify the latter's hot WeChat app for Ford's China model.
Ford believes that in China, the world's largest auto market, drivers are not only concerned about engine size emissions, but also about high-tech functions. Therefore, Ford hopes that Tencent will modify the WeChat function and then install the Ford vehicle in the Chinese market.
David Huang, senior engineer at Ford Asia Pacific Internet Services, said that the integration of WeChat functionality for Ford stems from the needs of consumers. “People want to be connected, communicable and entertained all the time, even while driving. No exception."
According to Ford's concept: Drivers can keep their mobile phone and car software system synchronized by voice or a small number of buttons, and control specific WeChat functions in the car. These features will be selected by Tencent in the future and will be certified by Ford to meet safety requirements. Huang Yong revealed that Ford is negotiating related business with Tencent. However, Tencent declined to comment on the above report.
In addition to Ford, other automakers are also considering providing mobile applications and online services for vehicles.
In August 2014, GM and Tencent jointly launched a platform that allows owners to use WeChat to find nearby dealers or send their cars to friends. A spokesperson for Nissan Motors also said that the company is expected to adopt WeChat applications for its vehicles.
